We seem to have developed a winning habit at import•io, although if I am truly honest with myself I never envisaged winning Best Startup at the biggest data conference in the US, on our first foray into the territory! At an offsite meeting at the beginning of the year, we made some big decisions about the way our product should operate. We wanted to turn the process of building connectors to online datasources on it’s head, to make it easier to get to a point where you actually have data in your hands. To make it a doddle for anyone, not just developers, to extract data. We also gave ourselves six weeks to do it….
Seven weeks later I am sat writing this in awe at what we have achieved. Not only did we deliver on time, we won Best Startup at Strata Santa Clara. We attracted so much traffic to our little booth in a far flung corner of the expo hall that we had other vendors coming over to ask, “Who are you, and why is everyone talking about you?!”. We could have easily filled a booth five or six times the size. On a number of occasions I had to take visitors over to a breakout area to demo as we simply ran out of space.
