While it may seem like the kind of costs that you’re not in the market to take on, the reality is that the networking opportunities presented at most or all of these conferences far outweigh the upfront price of admission.
We know it’s hard to get away for a weekend, let alone more than one during the year, but if you can even make one of these amazing conferences, you’ll be a better data scientist for it.

August 2015
HP Big Data Conference – Boston, MA (August 10-13)
In an effort to promote “superior business outcomes” HP is hosting what they hope will be one of the biggest Big Data conferences of the year. They’ll be discussing everything from use cases, to the tough questions developers and experts are ready to ask about future innovation.
2015 NoSQL Now! – San Jose, CA (August 18-20)
With more than 1,000 attendants, 100 speakers, and more than 30 product vendors, this 5th annual gathering of NoSQL is sure to be a great kickoff to a year of conferences. They’re vendor neutral, and talk about subjects ranging from scale-out architectures, to NoSQL data warehousing and more.

Big Data Innovation Summit – Boston, MA (September 9-10)
The Big Data Innovation Summit bill themselves as the “largest gathering of Fortune 500 business executives leading big Data initiatives.” Hear from Uber, The U.N., GE and more!
Telco Big Data Summit – Las Vegas, NV (September 9)
This is an amazing opportunity for anyone, especially other Telco operators. It’s the only big Telco event in North America, and should provide some fantastic networking opportunities and insights from big names in the Industry.
Strata + Hadoop World – New York, NY (Sept. 29 – Oct. 1)
This event, presented by O’Reilly and Cloudera, focuses specifically on Big Data’s implications on big business. You’ll hear from top global speakers on future insights, best practices, and smart innovations.
October 2015
Rich Data Summit – San Francisco, CA (October 14)
Featuring the likes of Nate Silver and Beth Noveck (among many others), this conference serves its name well by discussing leading strategies on turning big data into meaningful results. You won’t want to miss this one.
Teradata 2015 Partners – Anaheim, CA (October 18-22)
With the classic Anaheim convention center as its backdrop, this conference will be showcasing an “expanded scope” of meaningful discussions on how businesses can incorporate big data into their everyday practices. And if you can’t travel, this one’s accessible online!
2015 IEEE Conference on Big Data – Santa Clara, CA (Oct. 29 – Nov. 1)
The IEEE’s main hope in putting on this massive conference, tackling issues from Stock Market Analysis to Mining Social Networks is to “create a community around Big Data technology.” It will be a powerful learning tool and networking opportunity no doubt.

Big Data Tech Con 2015 – Chicago, IL (November 2 -4)
This massive conference in the middle of the Windy City kicks of a major month for big data conventions. This promises to be a major “how to” for Big Data use, and will prove to be very instructive in how new businesses take on Big Data.
The Data Science Conference – Chicago, IL (November 12-13)
This conference promises to be the first and only vendor-free, sponsor-free, and recruiter-free event of its kind. If you’re truly looking to learn and grow, this environment will lend itself well to your endeavor—and you’ll hear features from some of the biggest names in data science today.
#ODSC – San Francisco, CA (November 13-14)
Open Data Science West promises to teach and introduce conference goers to the next and biggest trends in data science, taking on languages, tools and topics that will fuel the future of the industry.
QCon 2015 – San Francisco, CA (November 16-20)
If you couldn’t make it all the way out to Rio back in September, there’s still a chance to learn at a global titan of big data conferences. QCon SF promises to focus on enterprise software development in a practitioner-minded way.

WSDM 2016 – San Francisco, CA (February 22-25)

Strata + Hadoop World – San Jose, CA (March 29-31)
While not much has been announced about this conference yet, if it’s anything like this past year’s, it’s going to be the most informative collection of speakers and workshops for Apache Hadoop all year—and a centerpiece for discussing the biggest developments in Data.
April 2016
Enterprise Data World – San Diego, CA (April 17-22)
As one of the most popular conferences of the year, this is a save the date you’ll definitely want to keep your eye one. This year’s EDW conference sold out well before April, so you can expect the same with even more workshops, seminars and forums.

Data Summit 2016 – New York, NY (May 9-11)
This conference, with amazing success now for two years running, has become a massively immersive educational experience. Big Data & Analytics For Pharma – Philadelphia, PA (June 8-9)

BigData2016 – Konya, Turkey (July 21-23)
Since you’re planning this one almost a year out, we figured it might be safe to showcase at least one foreign conference. As the 3rd international conference on data mining, internet computing, and big data, the three day conference will feature speakers from across the globe on processes, applications, and advances in research. Is it a thinly veiled excuse for vacation? Maybe. But as far as vacations go, this will probably the most informative one you’ve ever taken.
