The Data Summit SF edition is coming along nicely. We’re going to have great food from some of San Fran’s best food trucks, delicious cocktails and of course free swag! I feel like I’m forgetting something….oh right! The actual Summit! Don’t you worry – there’ll be more data-based learning then you can shake a stick at.
To give you a little taster of what’s in store, I want to introduce you to Daniel Frank from Stripe, who is going to tell you how to create data tooling that people will actually care about.
Speaker Feature: Daniel Frank, Data Engineer at Stripe
What the heck is a Stripe?
Stripe is the easiest way to accept credit card payments on your website or mobile app. With Stripe, you can create the payment experience you want in minutes, and Stripe will take care of all the heavy lifting, including security and daily transfers to your bank account. Stripe powers payments for thousands of businesses of every size—from startups to Fortune 50 companies. Stripe’s investors include Peter Thiel, Y Combinator, Max Levchin, Sequoia Capital, and Elon Musk.
Sounds great! But who is this Dan character?
Dan grew up in Brooklyn, with the mathematical distinction of occupying the zip code corresponding to the first five digits of the Fibonacci sequence. He earned a degree in Math from Yale, and has since been working as a developer at small startups that process large quantities of data, much of it generated in 140 character increments. He is currently a member of the data and machine learning teams at Stripe. When not in front of a monitor, he can often be found endangering himself on mountains.
Okay, I’m intrigued. What will I learn?
Dan’s Data Summit talk is going to be a doozy. First he’ll give you a crash course in the IPython Notebook focusing on how it stores data and code. Then he’ll convince you of the merits of reproducible data reporting and show you some tools and best practices to do it yourself. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to create data tooling that people will actually want to use.
So Dan, Why are you excited to come to the Data Summit?
Investing in data reporting has had a tremendous impact on our business, from reducing operational losses to understanding user conversion rates. We’ve learned a lot building this tooling and developing practices around it, and we’re very excited to share those lessons with other data practitioners, as well as hearing what’s worked well for them. Demos of new technology are great, but I’m most excited to connect with people focusing on user experiences and best practices as well.
The Data Summit SF
The Data Summit is a day-long conference, packed with amazing speakers, live workshops, great food and tons of cool swag. We’ll be talking about how people use data to build products, companies, inform business decisions and create cool visualisations.
It’s all about learning and exchanging amazing stories. Come meet your fellow #DataPunks and the whole import.io team (you can even book in individual sessions in our import.io labs to learn more about the product!). We round off this great day of data with drinks and some sweet dance moves.
